The town of Alguaire is located about 4 kilometers from the airport, so if you don't want to walk for an hour, we recommend Ed Sheeran. And you will wonder, why? Well, the popular singer recorded his video clip “BeautifulPeople” at the Lleida - Alguaire airport in 2019. The filming lasted one day with a recording and production team of 90 people. Lleida, the magnificence of the capital

A few kilometers from Torrefarrera is the great capital of the Segrià region: Lleida. To get there, you have different options, but we recommend the fastest, the N-230 heading south, where in 15 minutes you will be in the center of the largest city of Ponent.

Lleida has more than 140,000 inhabitants and an area of 212.3 km². This means that it is a large city and that as a visitor you will not lack options. Of course, the route takes you through remarkable places where art and culture are the protagonists, so the recommendations of the capital of Segrià will follow this path.

Speaking of culture, the city's great reference is the Lleida Museum. Located on Calle Sant Crist, 1, it has more than 7,000 square meters where you can discover the history of the capital of Segrià, from prehistory to the contemporary era. The museum's collection is a symbiosis of the Diocesan Museum and the Museum of Antiquities, which have combined their heritage resources to offer the visitor two centuries-old collections that form the museum assets of the city and its areas of influence.

Mostra de retaules del Museu de Lleida

Some of the most interesting aspects that you can find in the museum are the sacred art from the Diocesan Museum, the coin collection from the Numismatic Cabinet of the Provincial Council of Lleida, as well as some objects from the so-called Treasury of the Cathedral. In total, you will enjoy 974 works of art and archeology, in addition to other details such as the rock crystal chess pieces from Àger, the altar frontals from the Romanesque period, the stone sculptural elements from the Seu Vella, the paintings murals by Pia Almoina, the Gothic painting on a table from the Ferrer workshop, the 14th century sculpture belonging to the so-called School of Lleida or the Flemish-made tapestries.

As we have said, the cultural and artistic options that Lleida presents are numerous, and that is why you can also visit, depending on your interest and personal taste, for example , the La Panera Art Center, the Water Museum, the Automotive Museum, The House of the Giants, the CaixaForum Lleida, the Sorigué Foundation or the Espai Cavallers.

But Lleida 's heritage does not end in museums or exhibitions. Especially, we want to highlight the obligatory visit to the Seu Vella and Castell del Rei-Suda. The two main monuments of the city are concentrated on the Seu Vella hill.

You can access the Turó de la Seu Vella monumental complex by car or on foot from Sant Martí Street, entering the walled area through the León Gate or from Sant Joan Square, by elevator, through the Sant Andreu Portal.

There you will find a monumental complex made up of the Seu Vella, the King's Castle or La Suda and the military fortification that surrounds them. The three elements are classified as Cultural Assets of National Interest.

La Seu Vella is the monument with which the city of Lleida is most identified. The cathedral, built over more than two centuries, between 1203 and 1431, is considered a Romanesque work, although it presents Gothic elements and Renaissance additions.

The monumental complex itself is spectacular, but it is also located in an elevated place from where you can see incredible views not only of the city, but also of a large part of the Segrià region and the Lleida plain. The magnificence of the west, at your feet.

And in the meantime: if you connect the electric car in Albatàrrec, a municipality in the Segrià region located near the Segre river, we recommend that you visit the Albatàrrec Castle. This is a mansion with medieval air that was built at the most prominent point of the town. The castle, with a medieval plan, was built in the 13th century during the advanced Reconquest on the left bank of the Segre River, by Jon Esteve de Àlberes. Significant elements include the doors and windows topped with ogee arches, its three flying and stepped watchtowers, from which a wide and attractive panorama is commanded, and its parade ground, surrounded by Gothic arches.

Alcarràs, flowers that go from the cinema to the world

Leave the magnificence of Lleida behind and take the N-2 road towards the town of Alcarràs. The distance is 11.1 kilometers and you will arrive in just over 15 minutes. Alcarràs is a municipality in the El Segrià region that has around 10,000 inhabitants and a land area of 114.3 km².

The population has become extremely well known in all corners of the country thanks to a film released in 2022 that bears the same name " Alcarràs ". Directed by Carla Simón, “ Alcarràs ” tells the story of a peasant family from Ponent who sees their lifestyle disappear due to the threat of imminent eviction.

The film, recorded entirely in Catalan, received different international distinctions, such as a Prize at the San Sebastián Film Festival or at the Gaudí Awards. However, the most important distinction was the Golden Bear at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival. With this distinction, it became the first film in history recorded in Catalan to receive the award. In a few months, “ Alcarràs ” became a media phenomenon that ended up becoming one of the highest-grossing films in the history of Catalan cinema, grossing almost 3 million dollars worldwide.

And the success of the film brought the spotlight from around the world to the beauty of the municipality, especially its fields of flowering fruit trees. The pink blanket drawn by the peach trees around the town has become a tourist attraction, especially in the celebration of Alcarràs Florit.

Logically, to see the flowering fields you must visit and take the route at the indicated time of year, which is during the months of February and March. Through different guided routes, Alcarràs Florit gives you the opportunity to see first-hand the beauty of the Alcarrasino landscape, where you can see up close one of the main tourist attractions of Baix Segrià: the trees (almond trees, peach trees and the varieties of nectarines and platarines) in the process of flowering.

The mantle of bright colors will not leave you indifferent. The enchanting landscape and the visual spectacle of the fields, forming carpets of pink, is a recommendation that you cannot miss.

But if after enjoying the spectacle of the flowers you still want to get to know and get involved in the reality of the town of Alcarràs, we also recommend a visit to the centenary oak, the Montagut house or the Madre de Dios de la Asunción Church, a temple that hides a lot of history inside.
