Paüls Cherry Festival
The 22nd Paüls Cherry Festival is an event that goes beyond simply celebrating this fruit. In addition to enjoying the cherries, visitors can participate in a wide variety of activities, including craft demonstrations, music concerts, and dancing the Jota de Paüls, an elegant and graceful dance. The surrounding landscape is also a draw, making it worthwhile to visit Paüls during these days.
The Cherry: A Star Product
A popular saying asserts that in Paüls, people open their mouths before their eyes. This expression, lost in time, perhaps refers to the keen noses of the inhabitants of Paüls for detecting the finest local produce. Every year, with the arrival of good weather, the air of this small village located in the foothills of the Puerto massif is filled with the scent of cherries, a fruit that has established itself as the star product of local agriculture.
The first weekend in June, during the Cherry Festival, the steep but charming streets are filled with stalls where you can taste and buy various varieties of this sweet fruit, which encompasses all shades of red. The secret to this palate delight lies in several factors:
- Climate: The cherry tree needs long summers and cool winters, like those in Paüls.
- Farmers' work: Farmers care for the cherry trees from the moment they bloom, minimizing treatments and using natural fertilizers.
- Fresh air: The pure air of the Puerto massif also contributes to the quality of the fruit.
Cherries can also be the basis for numerous desserts, one of the most illustrious aspects of cherries. It's important to remember that, as with all fruits that are fragile to keep, you either eat them freshly picked or you have to use your imagination to preserve them, whether with jams, preserves, or alcohol.
Don't miss the opportunity to visit this charming town and discover everything it has to offer!
