Sant Jordi in Creixell

Creixell celebrates Sant Jordi with a lot of events!

The celebration of Sant Jordi in Creixell fills the town with cultural activities designed for all audiences. The program includes poetry readings at the residences, accompanied by live music, and stories and tales in the streets of the old town and at the school, with the participation of library volunteers.

There's also a space for reflection and creativity with a talk dedicated to the process of writing and publishing. Other offerings include the closing of a bonsai course and a piano concert featuring works by great composers, combined with the presentation of a biographical book. The weekend festivities continue with book stands and signings by local writers in the plaza, as well as a sardana dance with copla and dancers.

It is one of the most important festivals in Catalonia and is celebrated in honor of Sant Jordi, who, according to legend, slew the dragon to save the princess and free his people from fear and oppression.

Tradition indicates that men give a rose to women and women give a book to men, although this custom has evolved and currently, both men and women give both books and roses to their loved ones.
