International Museum Day at the Cork Museum of Catalonia

Once again this year, the Cork Museum of Catalonia is joining in the celebration of International Museum Day 2025, promoted by ICOM and the Department of Culture of the Generalitat.

To celebrate this special day, the Museum offers various activities:

Open House

Admission to the Museum will be free on May 17 and 18, and Saturday opening hours will be extended until midnight. Take this opportunity to discover the Museum at night!

Screening: 4 museum pieces

Friday, May 16th at 7 p.m. Four short films have been selected from the Videoplay archive, a key company in the recovery of historical footage from the region:

  • Waterwheel (Video Play file) The invention of the wheel revolutionized humanity's industrial process. We take a brief look at its history.
  • A tile, 1956 by Joaquim Puigvert, is a cinematographic documentary about a profession in a change of era, made with extraordinary sensitivity.
  • Pulling the Art, is a film by an unknown author about the fishing art of the poor, filmed in the Bay of Roses in the mid-1950s, a documentary of exceptional cinematic beauty.
  • Remembering the little train (Video Play archive), with a prologue and an epilogue, performed by Lluís Molinas and Salvi Martí, and the recovery of the poetic chronicle that Josep Martí Clarà (Bepes) left us of the longed-for little train, told by himself with images of the train running in 1953.

The jewel of the museum

In May, during the celebration of International Museum Day, the entrance exhibition space was renovated. This time, the proposal is the work carried out by the Catalan Cork Institute as part of the Futurecork project, a transformative project to promote the bioeconomy in the cork sector that includes research and training projects.

Based on training provided by ICSuro at various design schools, the students develop proposals using cork as the primary material for both the creation of objects and the research of new applications. The Elisava school, students from the Design degree program at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona, the INNANOMAT research group from the University of Cádiz, and ICSuro itself participated.

Night of the Museums

Concert: Zuma, a tribute to Neil Young and Crazy Horse, by Lluís Figueras & The Demons. Saturday, May 17 at 10 p.m.

With the aim of reviving important musicians from the history of music, these concerts continue to offer a combination of documentary fragments with live music. A diverse offering celebrates Museum Day and Night and reveals how museums can work toward a more inclusive, innovative, sustainable, and heritage-based future.
