Guimerà Medieval Market

Guimerà

On July 18, 1294, King Jaime II granted the old town of Guimerà the right to hold the weekly market. With this right, the first men of Guimerà would make their town grow, being a meeting point, exchange of merchandise and contracts.

In 1417, King Alfonso the Magnanimous recognized the weekly Guimerà market, which began to be held every Wednesday, instead of Tuesday. In 1526 Emperor Carlos I ratified the town's right to a fair. In 1994, 700 years later, the town of Guimerà recovered the market as a traditional festival.

The Guimerà Medieval Market celebrates a new edition, consolidated as one of the most important medieval fairs in the Lleida region, with the aim of publicizing and proposing the revitalization of the town of Guimerà, cataloged as a Cultural Asset of National Interest, as well as how to turn the party into a meeting point for friends from the surrounding towns and from all over Catalonia.
