European Heritage Days in Subirats

The municipality of Subirats is once again participating in the European Heritage Days (EHD), the continent's most prominent cultural event that opens the doors to unique spaces and invites visitors to discover the municipality's riches. This year, the local event focuses on a place as fascinating as it is largely unknown: the historic center of Torre-Ramona, a true medieval treasure located in the heart of the Penedès region.

With just over fifty inhabitants, Torre-Ramona preserves an exceptional architectural ensemble that transports visitors to centuries past. The tour will take you to the Torrota d'en Pasteres, a privileged viewpoint overlooking the Penedès vineyards; the interior of the Romanesque church of Sant Joan Sesrovires and its parish cemetery; the walled enclosure and courtyard of the Gothic-Renaissance Palau Gralla; and the San Sadurní Cava Guild, a symbol of the region's winemaking identity.

This experience combines history and landscape, as Torre-Ramona stands surrounded by vineyards, with the Anoia River at its side and the imposing presence of Subirats Castle. It's an environment that invites you to stroll, observe, and connect with the roots of the region. At the same time, the visit becomes a unique opportunity, as many of these spaces are usually closed to the public and only open on special occasions.

The European Heritage Days, promoted by the Council of Europe and the European Commission, are held simultaneously every autumn in more than fifty countries, establishing themselves as the most important participatory cultural movement in Europe. In Catalonia, this initiative has been running for more than thirty years and mobilizes hundreds of municipalities and organizations, which year after year offer free activities to make culture accessible and emphasize the importance of heritage as an element of identity and social cohesion.
