Jardins Artigas La Pobla de Lillet

Via del carrilet, s/n. La Pobla de Lillet

La Pobla de Lillet is located in the northeastern part of Berguedà, 843 m high, in a leafy valley at the foot of the Cordillera del Catllaràs.

The Romanesque Old Bridge, from the fourteenth century, majestically welcomes the old town that reveals a part of the past and its long history, a walk between narrow cobbled streets, small squares and steps below houses that lead us to beautiful corners Within this framework, the Parochial Church, from 1784, guards the Christ in Majesty, a magnificent Romanesque carving of polychrome wood from the 12th century, and the sculpture of the Assumption of the Virgin, the work of Frederic Marès.

The railway with the narrowest road in the entire state in its time, has been converted touristically and crosses the municipality from the old charger of coal to the cement factory, now a museum, an industrial complex of great interest.

Along the way are the Artigas Gardens, designed at the beginning of the 20th century by the architect Antoni Gaudí. The architect had arrived at the Pobla de Lillet to project the Chalet del Catllaràs where the engineers of the coal mines located in the same mountain range would be housed and that would be used to supply the kilns of the Cemento Asland factory that was being built in El Clot. del Moro, founded by Eusebi Güell and Bacigalupi.

During his stay in La Pobla de Lillet, Gaudí stayed at the Artigas' house and in gratitude for the hospitality received he planned for the family gardens right behind his factory: The Artigas Gardens.

This small corner sheltered by the Llobregat River , water is the protagonist and magic is present in every corner.

Here, from the imposing rock cut of the Glorieta you can see all this garden that fuses with nature and architecture.

In the outskirts, the Monastery of Santa María, an architectural complex with remains of different construction periods, stands out for its beautiful Romanesque cloister and the Gothic north door. Nearby, the Rotunda of San Miguel is one of the few examples of a circular church that we find in Catalonia.

The Sierra del Catllaràs, has a beautiful natural heritage to discover: sumptuous viewpoints, crystal clear fountains and an extensive network of paths that invite you to delve into these places of exceptional beauty. Here is the Falgars Sanctuary, home of our Virgin, a beautiful gothic alabaster carving.

In the middle of the forests of the mountain range is the Chalet del Catllaràs, designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí in 1902.

Our valley welcomes visitors offering everything they treasure: gastronomy, culture, history, crafts and nature, discover it!

The Artigas Gardens offer an educational service and workshops, as well as guided tours.
