Guided tour: Igualada Leather Museum
Every first Sunday of the month, the Igualada and Anoia Regional Leather Museum invites you to discover, through a free guided tour, one of the permanent exhibitions located in Cal Boyer.
The tanning trade
This space is dedicated to the generations of tanners who have fertilized leather in Igualada. This exhibition first shows what pre-industrial activity was like in the factories that sprang up next to an irrigation canal and, at the same time, gave rise to a new neighborhood. It then follows the path to industrialization, starting with the first machines powered by new energy sources. These machines were incorporated into the tanneries to accelerate the entire process of soaking, fleshing, splitting, and finishing the soles—the characteristic cowhides of Igualada—and which, throughout the 20th century, contributed to consolidating this activity as one of the most unique in the city.
The two permanent exhibitions that complete the Museum in Cal Boyer are open to the public:
A universe of skin
Throughout this space, you'll discover that leather has accompanied the development of humanity since its beginnings, and that it is present in areas as diverse as clothing, tools, transportation, writing, and sports, among others. You'll find a careful selection of objects ranging from the Roman period to the 20th century, belonging to nearby environments or distant cultures, made wholly or partially from leather, exemplifying the many applications and uses of this highly prized material.
Space Man and Water
This section provides an overview of water harvesting and utilization. Throughout history, all kinds of devices have been invented to capture and maximize water use, whether in agriculture, everyday life, or as a source of energy. The collection of hydraulic tools and devices demonstrates various methods of water harvesting, and in the experimental channel, models can be used to understand how they work.
First Sunday of every month: free admission.
Start time: 12:00 p.m.
We look forward to seeing you!
