Little Sant Martí Festival in Palafrugell
Palafrugell celebrates the Small Festival of Sant Martí!
The festival is celebrated on November 11th, in honor of Sant Martí, the town's patron saint. Although the festival is known as "Pequeña" (Little), it is not lacking in lively atmosphere or festive activities.
Although Sant Martí's day is November 11, the festive events are organized over a weekend to encourage neighborhood participation and keep alive the collective spirit that characterizes this celebration.
Organized by the Palafrugell Giants Association and the Palafrugell Town Council, with the collaboration of various local entities, the festival combines tradition, art, and community spirit. During the celebration, the town's streets and squares are filled with color and joy, featuring parades, sardana dances, children's workshops, and giant figure gatherings. Educational and creative activities are also offered, such as the "Giants of Palafrugell" children's drawing contest, which encourages children's participation in the world of giant figures.
One of the most anticipated events is the Giants' Gathering, which brings together groups from all over the country and other parts of Spain. This gathering becomes a symbol of brotherhood and cultural exchange, offering a wide array of traditional figures, dances, and music. Each year features guest giants of honor, emblematic pairs that strengthen the bonds between communities.
The festivities culminate with the Dance of Saint Martin, a display of giant dances that takes place inside the parish church and becomes one of the most moving and symbolic moments of the celebration. With this festival, Palafrugell reaffirms its commitment to preserving popular traditions, citizen participation, and promoting local culture.
