Guided tour: Medieval Igualada
Around the year 1000, at the foot of the Camí Ral and on the banks of the Aqualata River, a small settlement sprang up around the chapel of Sant Pere and Santa Maria. Over time, it would grow to become the walled town of Igualada, defended by thirty-six towers and two moats.
Discover the ancient origins of the city of Igualada and explore its walls, while exploring the main heritage elements of Igualada's old town.
We'll walk through the streets of Igualada's old town, where we'll discover some of the medieval portals, the location of the defensive mound that created the city, and the layout of the Anoia region's main market.
