Giant Living Manger at the Montserrat Monastery

The Monastery of Montserrat (Monistrol de Montserrat) will host a Giant Living Nativity Scene with nearly 900 extras!

The event, which will bring together for the first time 33 Living Nativity Scenes from Catalonia in a unique and joint assembly with almost 900 extras from all over Catalonia, will serve to commemorate the anniversary of the 800th anniversary of the first Living Nativity Scene. An event that took place in 1223 at the hands of Sant Francesc d'Assís when he chose a cave in the town of Greccio (Italy) as a setting to represent the birth of Jesus.

The Giant Living Nativity Scene will take place around the Monastery of Montserrat (between the squares of Sant Jordi, the Museum and Santa Maria) and admission will be free. The scenes can be seen in two shifts from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. A circular itinerary will take visitors through a sample of various scenes such as the Roman camp, the annunciation to the shepherds, the establishment, the market and trades, the gladiators or the Roman temple, among others.

The Giant Living Nativity Scene will also serve as a presentation event for the season. This year, the representations of the Federation of Living Nativity Scenes of Catalonia will extend to 44 towns.
