Festival of Sant Ponç in Riudarenes

This festival is celebrated on the Sunday closest to May 11. Sant Ponç is the protector of the bugs and parasites and for this day they collected, came and blessed herbs that were kept all year round in any corner of the house to ward off the parasites.

It was the right day to make aromatic waters of herbs and flowers, like rose water. In the whole area (Riudarenes, Sils, Tordera), the children made a catch: with a flabiolaire they went through the houses singing a song to protect the land from the bugs and collected, in alms, eggs and butifarra, which were then distributed over the noon. In the capture, only the boys intervened, adorned with vairades flowers.

In Riudarenes the party is celebrated with the best music, traditional acts and popular paella.
