Major Festival of Sant Urbà de la Figuera

The traditional Festival of Sant Urbà de la Figuera returns. In an incomparable setting, this party has become a meeting point for all the neighbors.

At the top of the cliff that presides over the village of La Figuera, a couple of kilometers to the northeast of the municipal nucleus, the church of Sant Urbà was built. The news from the written texts is rather scarce, highlighting one from 1648 where this church appears in a list of the book of synods of the archpriesthood of Àger. However, the characteristics of the presbytery and the central nave suggest the hypothesis of delaying its foundation until the 12th century, a context that coincides with the population chart of La Figuera.

The church has a single nave, covered with a barrel vault with a slightly pointed profile, apparently reinforced by three mortar arches. The presbytery begins with a semicircular apse, which opens into the nave through a semicircular arch. It rests on two hypothetical columns made of masonry, except for the capital of the right column, which is made of reddish limestone, typical of the area.
