Day of the siege in Castellfollit de Riubregós

In October 1822, the town of Castellfollit de Riubregós was completely destroyed by the army of General Espoz y Mina, after a brutal seven-day siege.

The events took place during the civil war between the liberals, supporters of the constitutional government that had been established in 1820, and the royalists, who had rebelled against the change of regime and were fighting to reinstate the absolutist monarchy of Fernando VII.

The Castro Follit Cultural Association has promoted the celebration of the Siege Day. The town celebrates one more year the Siege Day, in commemoration of the siege and the destruction that the town suffered.

The outbreak of the Diada is to reclaim and disseminate the historical heritage of Castellfollit de Riubregós.
