Birdwatching event at Parc Samà: "The Swift Festival"

At Parc Samà, a 14-hectare open-air historic garden in Cambrils and one of the finest examples of Romantic gardening, we will celebrate "The Swift Festival" on Sunday, May 25. This day will focus on outdoor ornithology and will feature a variety of activities, including:

From 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.: Birdwatching excursion through the park

Led by expert ornithologist Enric Pàmies, we'll take a tour of different parts of the park to learn about the birds that live there, early in the morning, before the park opens to the public. The tour will conclude with the rest of the activities taking place throughout the morning.

From 10:00 a.m.: Bird ringing

In the heart of Parc Samà, surrounded by ancient trees, throughout the morning, ornithologist and expert bird ringer Sergi Sales will show us what bird ringing entails: how birds are captured, what measurements are taken, and the purpose of this study technique.

Starting at 10:00 a.m.: Bird illustration and field notebook workshops

Led by Eva Carret, scientific illustrator and naturalist, two workshops will be held throughout the morning.

The first workshop will be dedicated to teaching how to draw birds, giving basic guidelines and explaining, from scratch, how to draw birds.

The second workshop, mid-morning, will be dedicated to creating a field notebook, wandering around Parc Samà, while drawing the animals and plants you find.

Starting at 10:00 a.m.: Workshop: Our leaded friends

Led by expert naturalist Jesús Ortiz, we'll learn which are the largest and smallest birds in Catalonia, what each bird's beak is for, see what the eggs of different species look like, and enjoy learning lots of interesting facts about these beautiful, water-soaked animals.

Starting at 10:00 a.m.: Nest box and feeder workshop

The CEN association will show you what types of nest boxes and feeders exist, and we will learn what they are used for.

A stand with nature and bird books, organized by Tundra Ediciones, will close at 1:30 p.m. with games and contests, followed by a fellowship lunch.

All workshops are free and included with admission to Parc Samà.
