Tarroja de Segarra
The municipal term of Tarroja de Segarra is delimited by the towns of Torrefeta and Florejacs, which embrace it to the west, north and east, and Cervera, to the south and east. It is a term of little extension, of 7.6 km2 and with a single inhabited nucleus, which appears referenced from the 11th century. In the mid-19th century, the possibility of adding this town to a neighboring municipality was raised. However, it still maintains its autonomy. It reached its maximum registered population in 1860, with 532.
Tarroja de Segarra is located in the middle valley of Sió, on the edge of the Guissona plain. It is a territory of smooth reliefs, shaped precisely by the passage of the river in a SE-NW direction. It has a dry continental Mediterranean climate, characterized by cold winters, with persistent fog, and hot, dry summers, with little annual rainfall.
At a regional level, it occupies a strategic point between the town of Guissona and the capital of the region, Cervera.
The population of Tarroja, traditionally, has dedicated itself to the agricultural exploitation of the territory. Production has focused on rainfed agriculture, especially wheat and barley.
