Les Planes d'Hostoles
Les Planes de Hostoles is a municipality located in the Hostoles Valley, formed by the urban nucleus of Les Planes, the towns of Cogolls, Les Encies and the village of Sant Pere Sacosta.
You can distinguish two distinct sectors: on the right bank of the Brugent abruptly rises the slope of the mountain range of Puig del Moro, limited by the calcareous cliffs that, little further on, make up the haughty ridge of the Far; on the left bank, on the contrary, the mountainous terrain is more stepped and with more gentle valleys such as the Cogolls valley, bounded on the east by the Sierra de las Medes, the southern buttress of the Finestres mountain range. The headwaters of the valley of Aiguavella or Vallac, the valley of the stream of Clot de les Baynes and the village of Les Encies are also within the municipality.
The churches of Santa Maria de les Encies, Sant Cristòfol de Cogolls, Sant Cristòfol de Les Planes and Sant Pere Sacosta are noteworthy. The castle of Hostoles and the castle of Puig-Alder are two of the most important vestiges remensas of the area..
