Garrotxa

La Garrotxa is a region located in the north-east of Catalonia, known for its spectacular nature and unique volcanic landscapes. This territory offers a surprising combination of natural parks, medieval villages and a gastronomy that has gained international renown. It is an ideal destination for lovers of nature, history and good food.

One of the main attractions of La Garrotxa is the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, which has more than 40 volcanic cones and numerous lava hills, which make up an impressive landscape. The Croscat Volcano and the Santa Margarida Volcano are two of the most visited; the latter has a church in the centre of its crater, offering an image that seems to come from another world. The Fageda d'en Jordà forests, a beech forest that grows on an ancient lava flow, are another of the most emblematic natural points of interest in the region. It is a magical place to walk, especially in autumn, when the forest fills with warm colours.

Olot, the capital of La Garrotxa, is the cultural and economic heart of the region. This city combines history, art and nature in a privileged setting. In Olot you can visit the Volcano Museum and the Garrotxa Museum, which offer an insight into local geology and art. Modernism has a strong presence in the city, with buildings such as the Casa Solà-Morales, an architectural gem.

The region is also known for its well-preserved medieval villages. One of the most famous is Besalú, with its spectacular Romanesque bridge and historic centre full of narrow streets and period buildings. Walking around Besalú is like taking a trip back in time. Other charming villages include Santa Pau, with its arcaded square, and Castellfollit de la Roca, perched dramatically on a basalt cliff.

The gastronomy of La Garrotxa is one of its strong points, with traditional dishes that make the most of local mountain products. Santa Pau beans, potatoes from the Bas Valley and artisanal sausages are just some examples of the ingredients that define the region's cuisine. In addition, La Garrotxa has several prestigious restaurants, some of which have been awarded Michelin stars.

Stay here, explore its volcanic landscapes, be seduced by its medieval villages and enjoy the gastronomy of a region that offers a unique and authentic experience. La Garrotxa will captivate you from the first moment.
