CIARGA route to Cal Bruna torrent
We propose a route through CIARGA and the Serral refuge, with a wine-growing landscape and the riverside forest.
We start the route at CIARGA, Interpretation Center for Republican Aviation and Air Warfare, in front of the Serral farmhouse. We take the paved road heading south. During the tour we pass Mas Granell and a few meters later we turn right to take a path between vineyards that will take us to Sardinyola. We cross the paved road, continue straight on Xaloc street and turn right onto Llebeig street.
We follow everything until we find the beginning of a path between almond trees. We continue straight on and after a few meters we see that it forks; We take the path to the left, which will take us down to the Torrent de la Bruja. Once close to the stream, we look to the left for a good step to cross to the other side. Once crossed, we continue upstream in the middle of a riverside forest where poplars, elms and plane trees predominate. About 150? M we see some magnificent examples of stone pine.
We continue along the path that borders the stream and that turns to the left until we reach the asphalt road of Cal Bruna. We take it to the right crossing the bridge over the stream, and after 250? M we meet again the path of Sardinyola. We cross it and continue straight on until we find the detour to the right that will take us back to Collado, the point where we have started the route.
CIARGA and refuge of the Serral
The Republican Aviation and Air Warfare Interpretation Center is a museum facility related to aviation and the civil war that is located next to the Serral farmhouse within which had been the republican airfield of the Monks and which was part of the Vesper of the Glorious.
Next to the center , the old air-raid shelter is preserved, from which we can see the two inlets and the three ventilation shafts. The presence of this refuge is related to the existence of the airfield. It is about 10? M deep and has a capacity for about 120 people.
In the municipality of Santa Margarida i els Monjos, all having a fairly intense industrial and commercial fabric, part of the traditional agricultural use of the soil is preserved where the cultivation of the vine is predominant. Around small towns, such as Sardinyola, we can see large areas of vineyards that offer us a beautiful rural landscape.
In the Torrent de la Bruja, as it passes through Sardinyola, we can see an interesting riverside forest with a great diversity of plant species. We find poplars (Populus alba), poplars (Populus nigra), bananas (Platanusxhispanica), elms (Ulmus minor) and holm oaks (Quercus ilex) with an understory dominated by climbing plants such as ivy (Hedera helix), sarsaparilla ( Smilax aspera) or the bush (Rubus ulmifolius).
Next to the stream are the sources of the Hort del Casas and the source of Sardinyola, currently difficult to locate under the extensive cane field that occupies the margin.
Streams and streams play a fundamental role in conserving the biodiversity of the territory, either because of their function as a reservoir of fauna and flora, as well as because of the role of biological corridors that minimize the fragmentation and isolation of natural habitats.
