Santa Margarida i els Monjos is a municipality located in the southeast of the Alt Penedès region, in the Pre-coastal depression, and is crossed by the river Foix. It has 17.39 km 2 of surface.
The municipality, located approximately 170 meters above sea level, maintains a balance between the plain and the mountain and consists of a dozen urban centers and small neighborhoods, the most important being Els Monjos, Ràpita and Cal Rubió, as well as of several farms distributed throughout the municipal geography.
Our municipality counts on natural places of great beauty: the Fountain of Sant Llorenç, the forest of the High Pines, the Torrent of Cal Bruna, the river Foix... all of them deserve a special walk that awakens pleasant sensations.
They have found vestiges of various eras: Iberian, Roman, Arab... witnesses of distant villages with constant presence in the area, motivated by the proximity to the important Iberian nucleus of Olèrdola and the passage of the Via Augusta.
The passage of time has also left its mark through several elements that make up a history and a rich heritage, which the visitor can discover by walking. Among the most important are the Penyafort Castle, the mill of the Foix, the hermitage of Penyafel, the numerous vestiges related to the Spanish civil war, with anti-aircraft shelters, the Ciarga, an old airfield, prison, assembly aircraft, etc.
