Sénia Airfield Day
La Sénia is a point of historical interest related to the Civil War and aviation, both in Catalonia and the rest of Spain. For strategic reasons, one of the most important airfields of the war was built here. This airfield, built in 1937, initially housed Russian soldiers and Republican Army aviators. Later, with the arrival of Franco's troops, the facilities passed into the hands of the German Condor Legion.
With the aim of giving visibility to the events of that period and promoting a recently museum-built space that works to preserve historical memory and prevent such tragic events from recurring, the Commemorative Day for the Construction of the Sénia Airfield was born in 2012.
The event includes guided tours of both the Historical Aviation Center and the airfield itself, where you can see historic aircraft and learn about their history firsthand. There are also flight demonstrations led by various aerobatic clubs and a display of a classic fighter plane. The period setting recreates the atmosphere of the past thanks to specialized historical reenactment groups.
Younger children can participate in aviation-related workshops, and the day concludes with live music for all attendees. It's a cultural and recreational event that combines history, memory, and an open-air performance, organized in collaboration with various local organizations and aeroclubs.
