Sant Narcís castle day in Girona

The Diada de Sant Narcís is an outstanding human tower day that takes place in the Plaza del Vino in Girona, within the framework of the Fairs and Festivals of Sant Narcís, the city's main festival. The Marrecs from Salt participate as the host group, and share a place with two guest groups: the Minyons from Terrassa and the Capgrossos from Mataró.

Both Marrecs and Minyons have been performing continuously since 1996, while the Capgrossos joined in 2006. Also known as the great day of the north, it often coincides with the Day of Saint Ursula of Valls, which has generated a certain rivalry between both events.

History

In 1998, the Minyons unloaded the first unlined 4-of-9 of the 20th century, 117 years after the last previous one, and also completed their first lined 7-of-7 pillar. Later, in 2008, they reached the lined and manacled 8-of-8 pillar for the first time, becoming the first group to complete the trio of large lined and manacled constructions: Pd8fm, 2d9fm, and 3d10fm. In 2014, they added the lined and manacled 3-of-10 pillar.

Thanks to the Castellers de Terrassa, the Plaza del Vino has been considered a Plaza de 8 since 1995. With the arrival of the Minyons in 1996 it became a Plaza de 9, and a Plaza de 10 from 2014. The first castles of the Marrecs, in 1996, were already 7, but it was not 8, but it was not until the 2. has placed two commemorative plaques: one for the 4 out of 9 without lining in 1998 of the Minyons, and another for the 4 out of 8 unloaded and 3 out of 8 loaded of the Marrecs, achieved in 2001.

The Minyons consider this square a talisman, and the Marrecs have put on memorable performances. In fact, according to the historical ranking up to 2014, the Minyons' performance in 1998 is ranked tenth, and the 2014 performance is fifteenth, surpassed only by emblematic days such as Sant Fèlix and All Saints' Day.

As for the groups, the best castle unloaded by the Minyons in the bullring was the 3rd out of 10 with forro and wives (2014 and 2015); by the Capgrossos, the 3rd out of 9 with forro (since 2008); and by the Marrecs, the 3rd out of 9 with forro, unloaded in 2017. These three groups have been performing continuously since 2006.
