Rice Harvest Festival in L'Aldea

september
L'Aldea

Rice cultivation has always been present in L'Aldea and forms part of its daily gastronomy and its festivals.

Formerly, the Village was a Muslim Almunia with a lofty tower that was given during the conquest of the city by Count Ramon Berenguer IV to the knight Bernat de Bell-lloc. The old town of L'Aldea, with the sanctuary or hermitage, the tower and some adjoining houses, is located in the SE sector of the municipality, in the middle of the delta area, on the border with the municipality of Deltebre. The traditional economy has been based on agriculture and livestock.

Part of the cultivated land is irrigated by ditches derived from the Izquierda del Ebro canal. Irrigated crops have been greatly promoted, such as rice cultivation, in fact the Village currently has a cultivated area: 2,853.66 ha distributed between rice and orchard with 281 community members.
