Natural Flower Carpet Competition in Arbúcies

The natural flower carpets will become the stars of the streets of the town of Arbúcies. The festivity, declared a Traditional Festival of National Interest, is an authentic exhibition of singular, unique and ephemeral works where the flowers reveal the personality of the municipality.

The creation of flower carpets fill the streets with creativity, forming a living space open to everyone who wants to discover a festival that has been celebrated for more than 500 years and that encourages public participation.

Each rug has a story and a different working method, where the usual thing is to start by choosing the theme on which it will be based. Different figurative elements, current affairs or those aspects that Arbúcies personalize are sought to capture the chosen idea with the composition of a rug. The flowers and leaves used to make it are native to the area, mainly from Montseny, and their varieties and colors give each composition its uniqueness.

On Saturday afternoon the party begins with a family show and the drawing of carpets on the floor until late at night. The next day, Sunday, throughout the morning, the neighbors collaborate in making the carpets of natural flowers. In the afternoon the winning carpets are announced and then the parade that passes through all the streets, steps on them until the streets are turned into a multicolored and irregular mat.

Thus, these ephemeral and unique works are worth seeing and discovering, since through the effort and dedication of all the participants a unique party is lived.
