Kayaking down the Ebro river
Flix, Miravet, Tivissa
The most complete route: From Mora to Miravet. The main reasons are the arrival to the beautiful town of Miravet with its Templar castle in the background; and the fact that the further north, the more current we enjoy and therefore we can walk more kilometers with less effort.
We say that it is the most complete half-day route, since it offers a bit of everything: landscape, sufficient river flow; towns to stop, islands in the river or the traditional Miravet boat pass.
It runs through the so-called "Cubeta de Móra" territory where the Ebro seems to rest, right between the "Paso del Asno" and the "Paso de Barrufemes" gorge.
The starting point is usually the Mora la Nova jetty and we usually stop for breakfast or bathing (weather permitting) on an island near Benissanet; Then we continue with the kayak to the emblematic Miravet: Crowned by the Miravet castle, of great historical value, especially in the time of the Templars, although of Arab origin.
The current of the Ebro river rocks us downstream with the kayak and we will calmly enjoy the exuberant riverside vegetation, especially in the Galatxo islands and the area of the Iberian town of Castellet de Banyoles in Tivissa.
Some curious contrasts that we will enjoy: We leave at the foot of the Mora de Ebro castle and we will arrive at the foot of the Miravet castle. We leave from the murmur of the 2 bridges of Mora, to the foot of the Iberian settlement of Tivissa. The departure island of Galatxo and the islands of Miravet to arrive. Leaving from large bridges and arriving at the historic Miravet boat pass still in operation, the only one that works without the use of electricity.
Apart from names of trees and different species of birds, we will surely learn what the lot is or came out; which are the "aubergine"; what spots our Iberian ancestors chose to live in; Anecdotes from the Battle of the Ebro in the Civil War and of course our guides will inform you of what to eat, what to visit, where to rest or local customs.
It is generally a section that runs away from the road and this makes it particularly silent and magical for a canoe, kayak or canoe route.
