The municipality of Sant Quirze del Vallès is located in the Vallès Occidental region, in a privileged setting just a few kilometers from Barcelona. The municipality is made up of several neighborhoods, including Les Fonts, Can Pallars, and Can Llobateres.

History and origins

Sant Quirze's roots date back more than 6,000 years, with human presence since the Neolithic period. During the Middle Ages, the area was made up of scattered farmhouses dedicated primarily to the cultivation of vines.

The parish of Sant Quirze, first mentioned in 1013, was the nucleus around which the town developed. The municipality was officially established in 1848, separating from Terrassa. Over time, it has adopted various names, such as Sant Quirze de Terrassa or Sant Quirze de Galliners, until it was established as Sant Quirze del Vallès in 1983.

Natural environment and urban planning

The Sierra de Galliners mountain range runs through the municipality, offering a natural area of great ecological and scenic value. This environment has influenced urban development, with neighborhoods such as Sant Quirze Parc, Mas Duran, and Les Fonts, which combine residential areas with green spaces.

Morisques Park is one of the municipality's main green spaces, ideal for walks and outdoor activities.

Heritage and culture

Sant Quirze preserves a rich architectural and cultural heritage. The Church of Sant Quirze and Santa Julita, of Romanesque origin, is one of its most emblematic buildings.

Other points of interest include the Vila-Puig Cultural Center, the former home of painter Joan Vila-Puig, which now hosts exhibitions and cultural activities. The Patronal, a modernist building dating from 1922, is a multipurpose space that hosts performances and events.

Festivals and traditions

The municipality celebrates various festivals throughout the year. The Aplec del Mussol, which takes place after Easter, is one of the most notable, with activities centered on this local symbol.

The Fiesta Mayor, in September, fills the streets with music, dance, and folk traditions. Other celebrations include Carnival, with parades and costume contests, and the Sant Antoni festival, with the blessing of animals.
