Perafita

Province: Barcelona | Shire: Lluçanès | Inhabitants: 396 | Extension: 19,6 Km2 | Altitude: 754 m

The name "Perafita" comes from the Latin "Petra-fictitious" which etymologically means "stone-hito" ie stone placed in a location to indicate the boundaries of property or territory. The village of Perafita is located about 754 meters above sea level on an elevated ridge on the part of the municipality separating the channels and streams that flow directly into the stream Gavarresa.

The first historical traces come from the cave of the Heures de Perafita, where a field that corresponds to the Iron Age, between 1000 and 600 BC was found. And the first document about Perafita dated March 5, 1069 at the Cathedral Diplomatario Vic.

Since the early eleventh century Perafita property was allodial lords of Besora. The year 1082, this property was donated to the Bishop Berenguer Sunifred Lluçà in response to goods he had received Orís, Besora and Torello. Perafita entered fully within the jurisdiction of Baron Lluçà that in certain primeval times it was the first lord of endret alodial. We know that in the late fourteenth century, Andrés de Fenollet sold Perafita tithe (10% of the harvest that all farmers subject to it should you pay each year) Pedro Ferrer. Probably their eponymous ancestor shortly after it subveguería Lluçanès. The town grew rapidly during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and became one of the most important commercial and craft cores Lluçanès.

The year 1396 Queen Mary granted to men of the Barony of Llucanes the figure of subveguería and established a double curia in Perafita and Sant Feliu Sasserra. So Perafita shared the administrative capital of Lluçanès although intermittently until 1661.

The 1567 can discuss the interim veguers Francesc Living Room San Feliu and Joan Mas Puig Puig de Perafita.

1854 the village had 850 parishioners and 58 farmhouses, maximum people in its history. The same year Perafita 109 people died in the cholera epidemic. In Perafita currently are about 60 cottages.
