Guided tour: Basilica of Santa María de Igualada

Popularly known as the Great Church, the Basilica of Santa María is Igualada's main church. Built in 1617 in the Renaissance style, it stands partly on the site of the original chapel of Sant Pere and Santa María, documented as early as 1002, around which the medieval town began to grow.

Over the centuries, the building has been expanded and transformed, incorporating Baroque and Modernist elements that give it a rich artistic heritage. Today, the basilica also houses the Fulgentia Sacred Art collection, one of the city's main heritage attractions.
