Outdoor science, observing occultations in Saldes

Speaker: Antoni Selva, Graduate in Biology. Member of the Sabadell Astronomical Group and current Vice Secretary of its Board of Directors. It performs observations of lunar and asteroidal occultations and astrometry of near-Earth and potentially dangerous bodies. He has collaborated with NASA's Lucy and Dart missions and other projects of the Andalusian Institute of Astrophysics

In our solar system there are hundreds of thousands of what are currently called minor bodies. These in their orbit around the Sun, just as the planets also do, can cover stars that are at the bottom of the sky and that are very distant from our solar system. This phenomenon is called occultation and it gives us the opportunity to study the nature of one or both of the objects involved. The observation of these phenomena is well within the reach of amateur astronomers and the data obtained is highly appreciated by professionals.
