Pessebre Vivent de Jesús Tortosa
The Living Nativity Scene of Jesus has been performed since 1986.
The town of Jesús (Tortosa) hosts a new edition of the traditional Living Nativity Scene in the gardens of the Teresian Sisters ' residence, one of the most emblematic representations of the Terres de l'Ebre.
A journey into tradition
Since its inception in 1986, this living nativity scene has become one of the emblematic events of the Christmas season in the Terres de l'Ebre.
The formula combines spoken and moving reenactments, with period costumes and scenes that recreate both the biblical episode of the birth of Jesus and the daily life of an agricultural village of bygone times.
The gardens of the residence offer the ideal setting for this recreation: paths between themed sets, scenes distributed in several scenarios and an organization that manages to involve a large number of participants and visitors.
What can be seen?
The performance transports the audience through various scenes: from the Annunciation, the Wedding of Joseph and Mary, and the census, to the cave of the Christ Child, the shepherds, and other pivotal moments. Simultaneously, traditional trades —spinner, carpenter, blacksmith, and farmer— are brought to life, offering a glimpse into traditional Catalan life in a meticulously crafted setting.
In some editions , more than 150 actors have participated, spread across more than 20 different stages, which shows the magnitude and quality of the proposal.
Why is it worth going?
- For the quality of the recreation: costumes, setting, actors and community participation.
- Because of the combination of religious and popular tradition, which makes it suitable for the whole family.
- To discover a more authentic side of Christmas in the Terres de l'Ebre, where the living nativity scene is not just a set but a journey back in time.
- It's free, which makes it especially accessible.
The Living Nativity Scene in Tortosa is an engaging, moving, and authentic way to experience Christmas in a special way. From the reenactment of biblical mysteries to traditional rural life, it offers an immersive Christmas experience that will be remembered.
