Santa Eugènia de Berga, borders the municipalities of Vic, Malla, Taradell, Vilalleons (Sant Julià de Vilatorta) and Calldetenes and is part of the bishopric of Vic.

The name Berga has no connection with the capital of Berguedà. It has Celtic origins (meaning elevation of the land). For a short period (1937/1939), and by decision of the town council, the village was renamed Berga del Castell. As early as 915, some documents refer to the name Berga as referring to an old village or large rural holding.

The toponyms or names of Santa Eugènia and Berga were united in the 11th century, although at times they appeared separately.
