Tres Tombs in Martorell

Martorell is celebrated the Feast of San Antonio Abad just the Sunday before the day of San Antonio.

San Antonio is the patron saint of round-footed animals, horses, donkeys and pigs and by extension of carters, muleteers and porter.

It is the oldest party in Martorell, since it began in 1647 with the founding of the brotherhood of San Antonio Abad, patron of the carreteros and arrieros, and of San Isidro, patron of the farmers. We began to find written references to the party of the Three Tombs in Martorell in 1854.

Martorell retains all the ethnographic features of the party, moreover, common in the Catalan Countries; the torches of wind in the plaza of the town, is the fire that accompanies the flag-bearers at the beginning of the festival (they symbolize the temptations of the devil); the presence of the gastronomic tradition of the pig, breakfast with sausages and bacon (until a few years ago we were raffling a piglet to help make the party); the guild flags that open the past of the Three Tombs and the blessing of the animals.
