Vilafranca del Penedès Rooster Fair
As tradition dictates, around Sant Tomàs, Vilafranca del Penedès celebrates the centenary Rooster Fair.
The Rooster Fair is a traditional bird market that has been held in Vilafranca de Penedès since the Middle Ages. At this fair you can buy and taste the renowned "Gallo del Penedès", a native variety of poultry highly appreciated for its attractiveness and meat, and the true protagonist of the fair.
Gastronomy and wines are also an essential part of the Feria del Gallo, a great exhibition of poultry cuisine that presents everything from the most traditional recipes to the newest, accompanied by wines from the Penedès Designation of Origin.
Several festive events make up the program of the Rooster Fair, a festival that is celebrated during the weekend before Christmas.
Today, the Rooster Fair is one of the largest activities and, in parallel with the Fiesta Mayor, the one that attracts the largest number of visitors.
