(A)phònica, Festival of the Voice of Banyoles

A festival research team has been working tirelessly in recent months to find out one of the best-kept secrets of recent times: where are the water women?

It is known, by legends and stories, that their main occupation was bathing in the pond, at night, well animated. But in fact, no one fully corroborated this version.

That is why they concentrated their efforts on finding new clues. And they found a very valuable one in a map of Banyoles from the Merchants Association illustrated by the cartoonist Pilarín Bayés in 1986.

Among the neon signs of the shops, the unique buildings and the windsurfers riding waves in the pond, they detected the presence of a semi-transparent, ethereal water woman who supported part of the weight of the city. But since then, what had become of them? Where are they hiding now?

Following the thread of that discovery, there was only one person who could help them remove the framework: Pilarín Bayés herself. An extensive conversation in his studio could provide all the clues: the women of water, gozas or nymphs come out during the (a)phònica, they walk through all the stages and corners of the festival, they listen attentively to the voices of the artists who perform there and they sing at the top of their lungs during the concerts! Mystery solved!
