Vilanova de la Barca
Next to the Church of the Asunción, and located in an elegant arcaded building, is the Town Hall of Vilanova de la Barca. Vestiges of its past are preserved in the town, both from the Middle Ages and the Spanish Civil War. In the municipality, the waters of the Corb River converge with those of the Segre River, forming an interesting natural setting.
The Town Hall of Vilanova de la Barca is located in a beautiful porticoed building in the traditional Catalan style, next to the church of the Virgen de la Asunción (Virgin of the Assumption).
The municipality, located northeast of the Segrià region, is bathed by the Segre and Corb rivers. The abundance of irrigation channels favors the cultivation of fruit trees, mainly apple trees. Next to the river there is an important wetland where it is common to see migratory birds.
Of medieval origin, it preserves a necropolis from the High Middle Ages and beautiful fragments of a Romanesque church. Also, in the municipality you can visit several sites where one of the toughest episodes of the Segre front took place, during the Spanish Civil War.
