Visit the Vilamur Bunkers (Soriguera)!
A few kilometers from Sort, towards Port de Cantó, lies a group of bunkers and fortifications built in 1938 during the Civil War. These structures, located in the municipality of Vilamur, are part of the defensive line erected by the Francoist side after the intense fighting that took place in the area during the months of May and June of that year.
Despite the construction effort and the presence of a company of between 80 and 100 soldiers, these fortifications never came into direct combat, beyond some specific bombings by the Republican aviation and air attacks that strafed their positions.
Life in the bunkers was not easy. The soldiers assigned there had to live in harsh conditions: they lacked hygiene, suffered from the constant presence of parasites, and had to subsist on meager and poor nutrition. These circumstances made everyday life in the shelters an experience marked by precariousness and exhaustion.
Today, the Vilamur bunkers can be visited on a self-guided tour throughout the year and free of charge, offering a unique opportunity to learn about an episode in our recent history firsthand. The tour allows one to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the war and reflect on the extreme conditions those soldiers endured. This visit not only adds historical value but also invites us to recall the collective memory and highlight the importance of preserving these material relics of the past.
We look forward to seeing you!
