Commemoration of the capitulation of the fortress of Cardona
Cardona was one of the most important places of the Catalan Countries during the War of Succession (1705-1715): war that meant the occupation of Catalonia by the Frankish troops and the disappearance of all Catalan institutions.
Its castle was one of the most prominent foci of the Catalan resistance and became the last bulwark of the freedoms of Catalonia, since it did not capitulate until September 18, 1714. The Aplec de Cardona has as main objectives to commemorate, remember and to divulge the historical events that took place in Cardona during the War of Succession, as well as to reclaim the freedoms lost since then and to promote Catalan popular culture.
