Vilopriu

Vilopriu is the head of a municipality that includes the towns of Gaüses, Pins and Valldavià. It comprises an area of land located to the left of the Ter, in the range of low-lying, rounded hills that form the interfluvium between this river and the Fluvià. The pond, built around the castle and the church with short, narrow streets and houses from the 16th to 18th centuries, forms a complex of undoubted architectural interest. The parish church of Sant Pere is located in the grounds of the palace castle; this castle has its origins in the 12th century, although it was modified in the late middle ages, in the 15th century, and still dominates the town as a whole.

The town of Pins is made up of a small group of farmhouses with elements from the 15th-18th centuries. The chapel of San Bartolomé, a suffragan of the parish of Gaüses, has a single nave with a polygonal chancel. A short distance from Pins is the town of Gaüses, located to the west of Vilopriu and made up of a sprawl of farmhouses in the valley of the Ramema (or Gaüses) stream, a tributary of the Ter. Particularly noteworthy are the church of Santa Maria and the sanctuary of Sant Roc, a small popular construction from the 18th century located on top of a hill. On the right bank of the stream is the Almoina, the vestige of a medieval building that was the possession of the Pía Almoina of Girona, and, next to it, the remains of an old mill.

Valldavià, the third nucleus, is in the extreme north of the municipality. In the midst of the silence and calm characteristic of the region, a small church awaits us, well preserved and with testimonies from different eras, and also the old castle of Valldavià, restored and rebuilt some twenty years ago at the initiative of some individuals.
