Marta Minoves: memories and cooking

There are people who speak about their region with such ease that it seems as if they're inviting you into their home. Marta Minoves is one of these voices. Connected to Berguedà and a lover of traditions, nature, and shared meals, she gives us a serene and very authentic view of Catalonia.

From femturisme.cat, we spoke with her to discover her favorite spots, those childhood memories that still linger, and the places she wants to continue exploring. A conversation filled with warmth, memories, and the aromas of home cooking.

A Catalonia made of ties, mountains and good boards

What is your favorite spot in Catalonia?

The Sanctuary of Queralt. It's a very special place, located on the Queralt mountain, right next to Berga. Whether you're there for religious reasons or just to enjoy the views, it's a breathtaking place. For the people of Berga, it has special significance because we have the Virgin of Queralt.

The Sanctuary of Queralt, known as the "Balcony of Catalonia," offers incredible panoramic views and a rare sense of peace. A place where spirituality and nature come together.

Queralt Mountains

Is there any place in Catalonia that brings back childhood memories?

Montmajor, with his grandparents. I vividly remember going to the garden to pick vegetables and preparing lunch together. I also remember the Berga pool, where I studied synchronized swimming for seven years. Both places are part of my childhood and bring back very fond memories.

What Catalan experience or tradition do you think everyone should experience at least once?

Without a doubt, the Patum de Berga. A festival so intense and unique that everyone should experience it at least once.

The Plenos are spectacular, and the whole thing carries a very strong cultural and symbolic meaning. I also recommend making a calçotada. It's one of those traditions that combines gastronomy and celebration, and that perfectly defines our way of enjoying life.

If you had to recommend just one thing to someone visiting Catalonia for the first time, what would it be?

A feast at a Catalan farmhouse. Especially in spring, when the weather is nice and you can eat outdoors. It 's a very traditional time to gather with family or friends to enjoy home-cooked food: grilled meat, cured meats, calçots... all in a festive, cozy, and very Catalan atmosphere.

What corner of Catalonia have you still wanted to discover?

The Ebro River. I'm really excited to get to know this area better, especially because of the salt flats and the unique landscapes it offers. It's a place I've been wanting to visit for a long time.

The Ebro Delta, with its lagoons, rice fields, and unique wildlife, offers another side to the country. The salt flats and changing colors of the light make this area a natural spectacle.

Where is the best food in Catalonia?

Well, if I have to be honest... At my grandmothers' house! But if we're talking about restaurants, I'd say Els Roures. It's a place where you can eat very well and one I always recommend.

Els Roures, in Berguedà, is known for its quality Catalan cuisine and welcoming atmosphere. It's one of those restaurants that leaves a good taste in the palate... and in the heart, too.

The Oaks

Marta Minoves tells us about a Catalonia experienced through all five senses: the smell of the garden, the view from Queralt, the taste of a good meal, the cool touch of the water in the pool, and the sound of a plenary session erupting in the square.

With a clear and grounded perspective, he reminds us that often the best places are not the farthest or most famous, but those where we have laughed, eaten, and loved.
