Sant Maties festivities in Montblanc
Montblanc celebrates the Sant Maties Festivities for another year!
The festivities are held in honor of the patron saint of the town, Sant Maties. Sant Jordi was the patron saint of Montblanc until 1687, when he was replaced in patronage by Sant Maties due to a vote of the people for having saved the town from a terrible plague of locusts.
A few years ago a fair was also held with an important gastronomic and wine component. The official contest for wines and cavas of the Conca de Barberà Designation of Origin was held in the old church of Sant Francesc, and the multi-sector fair was held outside.
Currently, in the Plaza Mayor after Mass , all the folkloric groups of the town perform. It is a good opportunity to see the different elements of the popular procession and the bestiary. There is also a meeting of giants and a castle festival apart from various exhibitions.
