Montblanc celebrates Corpus Christi once again!

The Corpus Christi of Montblanc is a celebration with deep historical roots, considered for centuries one of the most popular and important festivals in the town. Since the 14th century, the festival brought together brotherhoods, neighborhoods, authorities and all the local folklore elements, becoming an event of great splendor. One of the most unusual curiosities of the old procession was the presence of the gravedigger or pitman, who brought up the rear of the procession and had the function of keeping the hooded women praying with a rosary between their fingers at a distance.

Today, the festival is kept alive with the Corpus Christi Mass, which features the participation of children who have celebrated their First Communion and the bell ringers of the Santa Maria parish. At the end, a procession takes place from the Santa Maria church to the Serra sanctuary. Afterward, the Cortejo Popular (People's Procession), accompanied by civil and ecclesiastical authorities, parades to the Plaza Mayor. This event is an exceptional opportunity to see Montblanc's most representative folklore elements in action.
