Jardí Botànic de Gombrèn Gombrèn
In 1995, the initiative to create a botanical garden of medicinal plants was born in Gombrèn. It was a voluntary project undertaken by two Gombrèn residents and became the first Municipal Botanical Garden of Medicinal Plants in Spain. In 2004 , the Gombrèn Botanical Garden of Medicinal Plants Association, a non-profit organization, was created to promote and maintain it. In early 2008, the garden ceased to be municipally owned, and the association is responsible for financing and managing it. Currently, this association has approximately 150 members.
This association organizes all kinds of activities related to the topic: exhibitions, talks, guided tours of the garden, guided mountain tours (on medicinal plants, edible wild plants, wild fruits, aromatic herbs, medicinal riverside plants, magical plants, flora, etc. ). It has participated in television programs, collaborates in various fairs, organizes recreational events, and shares and exchanges plants and knowledge.
The aim of the Association and the Botanical Garden itself is to attract enthusiasts of natural medicine, botany, nature, and gardening; to encourage plant knowledge to enhance their therapeutic use, i.e., phytotherapy; without forgetting ethnobotany and the importance of plants at all levels: culinary, cosmetic, ornamental, environmental, etc.; and, in general, to attract all types of audiences and spread a passion for plants.
