Corçà
Corçà is a town and municipality in the Baix Empordà region that is made up of the main nucleus of Corçà and those of Casavells, Cassà de Pelràs, as well as the neighborhoods of Anyells and Planils.
The town of Corçà is mentioned for the first time in the year 878 in a precept of Luis the Stammerer, the Frankish king who dominated these lands. The document refers to one of the possessions of the Bishop of Gerona with the name of Quartianum. In the documentation of the year 881 that confirms the bishop's possessions, the town is mentioned as Quertiano; later, in the 11th century, it was renamed Quarciano and finally, in the 17th century, the documents in Latin were called Corciano and Corsá (Corçà) in Catalan.
The municipality of Corçà presents a diverse activity with a mainly agricultural sector in Casavells and Matajudaica, and a commercial and multidisciplinary sector in Corçà that forms, at the same time, an interesting historical center and an important historical and architectural heritage.
The parish church of Sant Julià and Santa Basilissa, documented in 1065, is a large 18th-century building built on a previous Romanesque temple from the 12th and 13th centuries, some parts of which still exist.
The population of Corçà integrates the neighborhood and/or neighborhood of Santa Cristina, which was built during the seventies. This neighborhood took its name from the Romanesque hermitage of Santa Cristina, located a few hundred meters from the center of Corçà. It is a protected monument with BCIL category and included in the Catalan Architectural Heritage Inventory.
