Routes through the province of Tarragona
Going into the towns of Tarragona is one of the best ways to appreciate its rich artistic and cultural heritage, the result of centuries of history.
An ideal way to get to know them is by taking routes through some of the most charming towns in this province.
Miravet, Tivissa, Pratdip and Salou
This tour promises the visitor a trip to the Middle Ages, starting with the famous castle of Miravet, one of the tourist attractions of this small town known for its pottery tradition. Declared a Cultural Asset of Interest, the fortress is one of the best representations of the Templars order in the peninsula.
On this route through the Tierras del Ebro you will find the magical landscape that makes up Tivissa and its location on top of a hill. This municipality is also a gift for all those who love climbing and hiking, with three via ferratas that combine different degrees of difficulty and that offer the athlete a new way to explore the beautiful natural corners of the town. Going up through the Baix Camp region, the route ends in Pratdip, with its impressive Romanesque church, a recommended visit.
To finish the tour, you can go to Salou, a town known as "Europe's beach" which, in addition to having a wide range of leisure and entertainment, also gives the possibility of disconnecting and relaxing in quality establishments.
Prades, Siurana, Riudoms and La Canonja
Prades, with an important medieval legacy in its streets and in the remains of castles and walls that it preserves, is a place located between the mountains that give it its name. On an excursion through these mountains we find a mandatory stop in Siurana, as it is considered the most beautiful town in the province. This town, with a striking location on a rock, offers incomparable views.
This route also includes a visit to Riudoms, the birthplace of Antoni Gaudí, and the town that the artist used to visit to connect with his origins and with nature. This town has an itinerary with information panels located in various streets with information and curiosities about the artist. In addition, you can visit the architect's family home, renamed Casa Cultura Antoni Gaudí; where a tribute is made to his life and work.
Less than 20 minutes from the end of the second route in Riudoms, there is another of the gifts that Tarragona offers us: La Canonja.
La Espluga de Francolí, Montblanc and Santes Creus
History buffs can explore the Cueva de la Fuente Mayor, in Espluga de Francolí. This conglomeration of caverns makes up the seventh largest cave in the world; with galleries that are testimony of human activity for centuries.
The towns of Montblanc and Santes Creus offer medieval landscapes typical of a tale; with architectural ensembles of styles ranging from the earliest Romanesque to the Gothic. The monasteries of Poblet and Santes Creus are a sample of the prototype of Cistercian abbeys and a delight for lovers of the Middle Ages.
