Alt Empordà
The Alt Empordà is a privileged region, located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees, with a landscape diversity that makes it unique. The Empordà Wetlands, one of the most important wetlands in Catalonia, are home to a rich biodiversity, while Cap de Creus, with its steep cliffs and hidden coves, offers spectacular views of the coastline. The Empordà plain , fertile and well-watered, extends between these two natural gems.
Figueres, the active capital of the region, is known for being the birthplace of the painter Salvador Dalí, and its Dalí Theatre-Museum is one of the most visited cultural attractions in Catalonia. In addition, the Alt Empordà has 68 municipalities, many of which retain their rural charm, such as Peralada , famous for its wines and castle, or Cadaqués, a picturesque fishing village that has inspired numerous artists.
The cultural heritage of the region is equally remarkable. Don't miss the Monastery of San Pedro de Rodas, an imposing Romanesque building located in the mountains of Cap de Creus, with spectacular views of the coast. The Church of San Miguel de Fluvià, with its robust tower, is another example of the Romanesque architecture of the area. In Empúries, you can walk among the remains of the ancient Greek and Roman colonies, testimony to the long history of the region.
You are in a land with a strong wine and gastronomic tradition, where DO Empordà wines are paired with local products such as olive oil and fresh fish from the Gulf of Roses. Be sure to enjoy its Mediterranean cuisine, from family-run taverns to Michelin-starred restaurants.
Stay here, explore the charming villages, visit the natural parks, and let yourself be captivated by the cultural and scenic richness of Alt Empordà.
