Wool festival and wedding in the field of Ripoll
The National Wool and Peasant Wedding Festival is a festival that the population of Ripoll celebrates year after year on the weekend after the Sant Eudald festival.
The Wool Festival and Peasant Wedding can be defined as the most traditional festival in Ripoll. It is a wedding that, on the one hand, recreates the religious bond between the heir and the pubilla of two wealthy houses.
And on the other, the shearing of the sheep, a tribute to the life of the shepherds and the related trades, so important in this region, and which allows us to see the way in which for centuries a shepherd shears cattle, the mattress itches and cleans the wool, and the spinners cardan it and make thread.
This year, on May 15, at four in the afternoon, a retrospective exhibition of the Wool Festival will be inaugurated, which can be visited in the Abad Senjust Room. In addition, you will be able to participate in the 'Gincana del campesino', a search for the most characteristic objects of the festival through the Ripoll shop windows.
On the same day 15, the dance of the giants is organized, at five in the afternoon. They will visit the Plaza Grande, the Sant Eudald square, the Tomás Raguer square and that of the Town Hall. In the morning, from 11 am, it will have been possible to participate in 'Dress your sheep', in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
