Embutada, novel wine festival in Tarragona

Tarragona has been linked to wine, and the harvest has generated festivals throughout the centuries. In the city, when the wine was fermented, people rushed to the wineries to taste the wine and celebrate life.

Sitting on wooden benches, groups of friends, fishermen, castellers and day laborers asked for a funnel, usually filled with wine. This funnel, unlike the funnels we now have at home, was shaped like an angle.

The funnel was passed from client to client, from friend to friend, while the lower end of the tube was covered with a finger. It's about not being the last to finish, because whoever ran out of wine paid for the round.

La Embutada invites us to recover the memory and winemaking tradition and highlights the funnel, which was not only used in Tarragona and the municipalities of Tarragonès, but also in such emblematic wine regions as Priorat and Baix Penedès.

La Embutada has as its epicenter the Plaza del Rey de Tarragona, in the Upper Town (historic center), where fishermen and castle towers celebrated the arrival of the harvest.
