Santa Tecla Fair in Cassà de la Selva

The Santa Tecla Fair is called by many locals the small festival of Cassà de la Selva and is celebrated in mid-September.

In 1456 Cassà de la Selva obtained permission to organize two annual fairs in which merchants and peasants met to sell and exchange their products. The day of Santa Tecla, a saint invoked by the dying to have a sweet death, was chosen to mark the celebration of the Little Festival of Cassà.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Santa Tecla Festival had become an economic reference because important prizes were distributed to the best equine and bovine specimens and to the best and most numerous flocks of lambs, in addition to having a very important recreational aspect, with fireworks, sports and musical activities.

Today, the Santa Tecla Fair has become the small festival of Cassà, a very lively festival in which different cultural and traditional events are celebrated, parades, meetings of giants and lace makers, concerts... One of the main events What is celebrated during the fair is the "Cremat" Night, which takes place on Friday and consists of a sardana dance and during the break the "cremat" is distributed to all residents and visitors.
