July 13, World Rock Day
The World Rock Day is celebrated annually on July 13 to commemorate the mega concert "Live Aid" which was held on July 13, 1985 simultaneously in London, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sydney and Moscow. The aim of the festival was to raise funds for Somalia and Ethiopia, countries that were suffering a serious humanitarian crisis.
The concert featured the most iconic rock bands of the moment, including Led Zeppelin, The Who, Black Sabbath, Queen, Sting, Judas Priest, Duran Duran, U2, Scorpions, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton or Phil Collins.
The success of the event was so great that it was decided to declare the date as World Rock Day, in homage to the concert "Live Aid".
