The nativity scene that captivates: Parets del Vallès and its tribute to crops
When December arrives and the Christmas spirit begins to fill the streets and squares, Parets del Vallès transforms into a unique setting. Beneath the Plaça de la Vila, a singular space comes alive each year with one of the largest tabletop nativity scenes in Catalonia: the Monumental Nativity Scene of Parets del Vallès, which this year celebrates its 39th edition. From December 6th to January 25th, everyone who visits can enjoy a surprising experience, meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail, and which this year pays homage to one of the deepest and most beautiful aspects of our region's heritage: rural life and working the land.
A Nativity scene dedicated to crops and the rhythms of nature
This year's nativity scene is much more than a traditional representation; it's a vibrant, visual, and emotional journey through the country's main crops. It's a way to honor the farmers, their trades, and the ancestral connection to nature that has shaped our landscape and identity.
As visitors stroll through the exhibition, they discover an olive grove where the harvest is reenacted, accompanied by a meticulously recreated olive oil mill, showcasing the artisanal process of this product so deeply rooted in Mediterranean culture. Just a few meters away, flowering almond trees herald an eternal spring, and sunflowers and lavender, with their vibrant colors and evocative fragrance, create a scene of unmistakable beauty.

Traditional vegetable gardens are also present, with tomato plants, potato fields, and other crops that serve as a reminder of the importance of patient work in the fields. And this year, as a notable addition, the rice harvest is also depicted, incorporating an agricultural landscape that broadens the geographical scope of the nativity scene and enriches its portrayal of the rural world.
Vineyards, wheat, and a windmill that transports you to another time
One of the most spectacular highlights of the tour is the perfectly ordered vineyards and the vast wheat field dominated by a flour windmill. Its movement and imposing presence demonstrate the traditional process of milling grain. This dynamic and authentic scene is one of the most striking for visitors, both for its scale and the meticulous detail.

The ensemble is completed with spaces that evoke the wildest nature, such as a cave surrounded by forest and fog, which provides a mysterious and evocative atmosphere, a poetic pause in the journey that refers to the birth and connects us with the deepest symbolism of the manger.
Innovation and tradition: a constantly evolving nativity scene
One of the unique features of the Monumental Nativity Scene in Parets del Vallès is its combination of traditional craftsmanship and technological innovation. The Nativity Scene Association, with decades of dedication, incorporates new elements each year that expand the project without losing its essence.
In this edition, new houses and figures have been created using 3D printing, a technique that allows for the production of unique and extremely detailed pieces. Some figures even represent members of the organization, making the nativity scene a reflection of the community that makes it possible. Landscape elements, such as olive trees, vines, and grapes, have also been created using the same technique, achieving surprisingly realistic textures and shapes.
This year, the nativity scene also incorporates a day-night effect, illuminating the houses and magically transforming the scene. This light transition adds depth and dynamism, making the visit an almost cinematic experience.
A space of 230 m²: the largest tabletop nativity scene in Catalonia
At 230 square meters, the Monumental Nativity Scene in Parets del Vallès is the largest tabletop nativity scene in Catalonia. Its size allows for an immersive experience where visitors can discover hidden scenes, everyday stories, and a world full of details that make each visit unique.

The nativity scene's layout allows it to be viewed from different perspectives, and its enveloping structure facilitates this sense of constant discovery. It's an ideal space to visit with family, friends, or even alone, as everyone can find their own way to experience it.
A living tradition that unites generations
The Monumental Nativity Scene is not just an exhibition; it is a living tradition that has grown thanks to the selfless involvement of many people. The Parets Nativity Scene Association, responsible for the project, works year-round to create this grand Christmas display.
His passion, artisan knowledge and constant desire to innovate have made this nativity scene a Catalan benchmark and an essential part of Christmas culture.
This year, with a moving tribute to the agricultural world and the wisdom of the land, the experience is even more special. An invitation to rediscover our origins, to marvel at craftsmanship, and to be captivated by the magic of Christmas.
